OIL STOP AUTO BOOM IN HONG KONG March 2010
In March 2010, the Oil Stop Division of AMPOL visited the Hong Kong Electric
Company (HEC) Electric Power Generating Plant on Lamma Island, Hong Kong SAR. The
purpose of the visit was to provide training and commissioning of a package of oil spill response
equipment sold by Oil Stop to HEC. The package included 1000 feet (300 Meters) of Harbor
Model Auto Boom on a hydraulic powered reel, a disc/brush type oil skimmer with a transfer
pump, a 2500 gallon Towable Oil Bladder and a 3000 gallon Open Top Reservoir. The Oil Stop
factory representative provided one full day of classroom training on the operation and
maintenance of the equipment, followed by a full day of boom deployment exercises.

Part of the exercise was to demonstrate how
Auto Boom could be deployed using any
vessel with adequate power. The inflation
blower was operated from this “sampan” type
boat during the single point inflation
demonstration.
The purpose of the containment boom
is for „insurance? booming of fuel
barges that frequently come to the
terminal of the power plant.

It was further demonstrated that the boom could be handled, attached to moorings on the face of
the dock, and anchors could be placed and set from this single vessel.
